RIO STILL BELIEVES

Despite a tough start in the new era under David Moyes, defender Rio Ferdinand has said that Manchester United will be capable of winning all the trophies on offer this season. United have had just one victory in three matches this season.

They have also failing to land many of the transfer targets. They ended up settling for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini, for whom they paid £ 27.5 million even though they could have got him for £ 23 million only a month ago. Cesc Fabregas, Juan Mata, Thiago Alcantara were all heavily linked with a move to United.

Despite signing only Fellaini as a major player in the summer transfer window, Ferdinand reckons that United will be capable of challenging on all fronts because they already have a strong squad. The recent performances by the club, though, will put a lot of doubt in the minds of the supporters. United have been unable to score like they used to under Sir Alex Ferguson in recent matches. The Champions league group stages is also extremely close by, and this will be Moyes’ first experience in the competition.

United have only two victories when it comes to Champions league in their history. Ferdinand recently extended his contract to stay at Old Trafford till the end of the season.

“We’ve got a strong enough squad to win everything. We won the league at a canter last season and we’ve not become a bad team overnight. We believe strongly in what we have got. And anyway, you can’t judge the league after three games,” said Ferdinand, who has been linked with a move abroad with several MLS clubs showing interest in him. It looks like he will be spending at least one more year at Old Trafford in order to ease the transition phase.
